Internships

Nashville Children’s Alliance offers meaningful internship opportunities for students interested in supporting children and families impacted by abuse. Interns gain hands-on experience, professional mentorship, and the opportunity to make a real impact in the community.

We offer two primary internship tracks: Generalist and Clinical.

Generalist Internship

The Generalist Internship (Family Advocacy) is designed for undergraduate students or early graduate students pursuing degrees in fields such as social work, human development, family studies, or related areas.

    • Work alongside Family Support Specialists

    • Meet with caregivers and support families throughout the process

    • Facilitate psychoeducation and support groups

    • Assist with group programming

    • Currently pursuing a degree in social work, human development, family studies, or a related field

    • Typically in your final year of undergraduate study or early graduate school

    • Commit to two consecutive semesters (fall and spring)

    • Complete application, background check, and interview process

    • Weekly one-hour supervision with a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW)

    • Individualized schedule to help you meet required internship hours

    • Internships follow the academic year (fall and spring semesters)

    • Example cycle: Fall 2027 – Spring 2028

    • Recommended time to apply or inquire: February–March 2027

    • Provide therapy services to clients under supervision

    • Utilize Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

    • Participate in TF-CBT training provided by NCA

    • Conduct crisis intervention, including suicide assessments and safety planning

    • Facilitate psychoeducation and support groups

    • Must be actively pursuing a master’s degree in a clinical field

    • Ability to commit to a full academic year (fall and spring semesters)

    • Complete application, background check, and interview process

    • Supervision provided by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

    • Clinical guidance from experienced staff, including internship leadership

    • Internships follow the academic year (fall and spring semesters)

    • Example cycle: Fall 2027 – Spring 2028

    • Recommended time to apply or inquire: February–March 2027

Clinical Internship

The Clinical Internship is intended for graduate-level students pursuing a master’s degree in social work or a related clinical field.
