When a report of suspected child abuse is made, Nashville Children’s Alliance works alongside law enforcement, the Department of Children’s Services, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to support a coordinated response.

Together, these professionals review the information provided, determine what steps may be needed, and help ensure children and families are connected with the appropriate services and support. Families are referred to NCA by law enforcement or the Department of Children’s Services when a forensic interview or other services are needed.

Through a collaborative, ongoing team approach, Nashville Children’s Alliance brings together professionals from key partner agencies to coordinate investigations, share important information, and determine appropriate next steps.

By working together, team members can better understand each child and family’s needs, reduce duplication throughout the investigation, and connect families with appropriate services and support. This coordinated approach helps keep the child’s safety and well-being at the center of every decision.

Children participate in a carefully structured, developmentally appropriate interview with a specially trained forensic interviewer in a safe, child-focused setting. The interviewer uses trauma-informed techniques and open-ended questions to give children the opportunity to share information in their own words without being pressured or led.

The interview is observed and recorded by members of the investigative team, allowing partner agencies to gather important information while reducing the need for a child to repeat their experience multiple times. The child’s comfort, safety, and individual needs remain a priority throughout the interview.

Family Advocates walk alongside children and caregivers throughout the process, helping them understand next steps, connect to resources, and access ongoing support during a difficult time.

Our clinical team provides trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy for children and their non-offending caregivers at no cost. Services are individualized to meet each child and family’s unique needs and support healing and emotional recovery following abuse or trauma.

Therapists create a safe and supportive space where children can process their experiences, develop healthy coping skills, and build resilience. Caregivers may also receive support and guidance to help them understand their child’s needs and support their healing at home.

Support continues throughout the healing journey through NCA’s therapy, advocacy, and investigative services. Our team works alongside children and families to provide guidance, connect them with resources, and respond to changing needs throughout the process.

Even after an investigation or case concludes, families can continue accessing NCA services and community resources. Our goal is to ensure children and caregivers have ongoing support as they heal, build resilience, and move forward.
